About Me

In my element.
IN A NUTSHELL:

It’s been a good journey so far.

Ever since I can remember, my favorite of the 5 W’s was “WHY”. It may not seem like much, but the implications shaped me. I was taught to always question everything, and my curiosity had minimal boundaries, much to the annoyance of some. From early on, I knew I wanted to be a scientist. I took it a step further upon experiencing the wonders of the ocean in my books and local tide pools, and from my parents frequently taking me to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. I had found a niche that I knew I could be happy in.

Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I consider myself to have been somewhat socially awkward, more so earlier than later. Partial acceptance by others was the norm for me. Nonetheless, those years produced for me some great relationships that still exist. However, even then, science remained my passion and that was apparent throughout. In elementary school, my science projects were ahead of my time. The same was true for middle school, as my research on marine algae and plankton took me to multiple science fairs, and allowed me the great honor to compete on the state level. This carried on into high school where I took it to the next level and studied the implications of varying water temperature on swell shark embryos.

Many years have passed since then, but little has changed. I still find myself most comfortable at the edge of the sea, and after completing my B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy with a Bio minor from Long Beach State, I am happy to have landed myself a job that keeps me in constant proximity to it. This is in no small part due to my experiences and friends gained while volunteering at NOAA Fisheries in Long Beach, and for that, I thank them profusely. I don't think this job is forever, but it is a great start and will provide me with invaluable experience and the foundation for carrying out my ultimate life mission of ensuring oceanic health for this generation, and every generation thereafter.
